Line Editing
Line editing, as the name suggests, involves making changes to a manuscript at the line, or sentence, level; for example, rewording a sentence to improve readability or remove ambiguity. If you feel that the “flow” of your manuscript could use improvement, line editing might be the editing for you.
Copy Editing
Copy editing is also known as mechanical editing, because it is the stage in which the editor focuses on issues of punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and syntax. If your manuscript has been evaluated for characterization and issues with plot, copy editing is likely the editing for you.
Proofreading
Proofreading is the final step in a manuscript’s preparation for publication, where the proofreader scrutinizes the text for any errors, such as typos, missed in the copy editing stage. If your manuscript needs only a final review and polish, I would be happy to proofread it for you.
There is a certain flexibility in these stages of editing and every manuscript is different. If you are unsure what your manuscript needs, feel free to schedule a free half-hour consultation with me.
